How Do All-on-4 Dental Implants Work?

During All-on-4 surgery, a specialist will perform any necessary extractions and then strategically insert four dental implants into your jawbone. Four get placed toward the back of the bone at a 45-degree angle, and two get placed toward the front. This strategy utilizes areas of the jaw that are naturally strong and thick, so it is unlikely that you will need a bone graft. Right after the implants are in place, you may receive a provisional (temporary) denture to go on top of them. After a healing period, our team will replace the provisional denture with a permanent prosthetic.

Am I a Candidate for All-on-4 Dental Implants?

You might be a suitable candidate for All-on-4 dental implants if:

  • You are missing all or most of your teeth throughout one of your dental arches, or your remaining natural teeth are in poor health.
  • Your jawbone is strong enough to support dental implants — most patients meet this criterion, even without undergoing a bone graft.
  • Your oral and overall health are decent. You should be free of active gum disease and other conditions that might interfere with your implants’ success.
  • You have good habits that will support your implants.

If you are not sure whether you qualify for All-on-4, the best thing you can do is visit our team to talk about your tooth replacement options.

Benefits of All-on-4 Dental Implants

All-on-4 treatment offers some truly remarkable benefits:

  • A strong bite. You can expect to be able to eat virtually any food without worries.
  • A beautiful smile. Our team carefully designs All-on-4 dentures in order to make them as comfortable, natural-looking, and attractive as possible.
  • Jawbone preservation. Because dental implants stimulate the jawbone, they can help to keep it strong and whole.
  • An All-on-4 denture is permanently anchored in the mouth, so in many ways, you can treat it in the same way you would natural teeth.
  • You will never have to worry about your denture slipping out of place.

All-on-4 vs. Traditional Dental Implants

Traditional dental implant between natural teeth

There are a few key differences between All-on-4 treatment and traditional dental implants:

  • All-on-4 is often faster and less invasive than full-arch replacement with traditional implants. That is because it usually requires just one surgery, rather than two or more. Plus, All-on-4 often uses fewer implant posts.
  • Traditional dental implants are more versatile. They can replace any number of lost teeth. Plus, using more implants to support a denture may provide it with additional strength and stability.

During your consultation, our team can help you decide which dental implant treatment is the best fit for your unique circumstances.
